Elements of the formation of the German hemp market
Compared with 2017, in 2018, the volume of leaves and inflorescences of legal psychoactive cannabis used in Germany for medical purposes increased by 30%. Despite the fact that at the moment the government is forced to import hemp raw materials to meet domestic demand, government officials are doing everything possible to create a national industry that will be able to meet the rapidly growing demand for cannabis "green mass" by German patients.
As it has already been described on the pages of the specialized electronic publication of Ukrainian growers, German officials systematically create conditions under which national companies specializing in the cultivation, processing and sales of medical cannabis are formed, which over time will fully meet domestic market demand and the government will no longer need import green mass cannabisa with tremendous therapeutic properties from abroad.
According to the representative of the Federal Institute of Drugs and Medical Products (Bundesinstitut für Arzneimittel und Medizinprodukte, BfArM), two German companies have the right to annually grow, process and sell several tons of medical cannabis on the domestic market of Germany. In particular, Aurora received permission for the annual production of 1 ton, and Aphria (Bad Bramstedt) 0.8 tons of green mass of hemp over the next four years. The first harvest of both companies is expected on the shelves of the country's pharmacy chains in the autumn of 2020.
According to responsible government officials, granting permits to the above-mentioned national companies for the cultivation, processing and sales of medical cannabis in the country is an important step in providing the necessary raw materials for seriously ill patients with a national cannabis product grown according to all the necessary criteria for pharmacological preparations.

In connection with the foregoing, the necessary conditions are created for investment in this sector of the country's economy, and final closed production chains are formed - from sowing and directly to the consumer. For example, the conditions have been created under which Aurora Germany, owned by the Canadian group Aurora Cannabis Inc., will “launch” the production facilities for growing and processing therapeutic cannabis in the city of Leune (Saxony-Anhalt) in early May 2019.
