The oldest in the world of hemp fabrics

During the excavation of the settlement Çatalhöyük (Turkey) found the remains of hemp fabric woven 9,000 years ago.

In the ruins of the building, built 90 centuries ago, an international expedition of archaeologists exploring the "forked hill" discovered the fossil remains of a baby wrapped in hemp fabrics.

Cloth, whose age is about 9000 years old, was one of the most striking results of the archaeological excavations of the previous season, which was attended by 120 people from 22 countries. The peculiarity of this artifact is its high level of safety for further special studies.

Analysis of the tissue in the laboratory confirmed that it is woven from hemp fiber, "says the head of the excavation, Professor Ian Hodder (Ian Hodder). "This is unique in the world, so well preserved example of hemp textiles."

History of cultivation and processing of hemp has more than 12 thousand years. Before the discovery of products from hemp fabrics in Turkey, ancient finds use hemp fiber dates back to the 5th millennium BC (Prints found in Chinese ceramics - Yangshao). It is known that 5-th millennium BC Chinese used hemp as food, as a basis for the production of clothing, footwear, ropes, and the first samples of paper.

City Çatalhöyük is the largest and best preserved to date Neolithic settlement. 9000 years ago, when humans were still hunter-gatherers, the settlement consists of a bustling city, where about 10 thousand people. In the list of UNESCO World Heritage Site is listed as one of the best places, necessary for understanding the history of mankind.
