The efficacy of medical cannabis in Israel
The experience of colleagues from Israel is extremely useful in our country in connection with the adoption of the legal framework governing the use of cannabis for medical purposes in the territory of Ukraine.
Despite the fact that cannabis has been used for medicinal purposes throughout the history of mankind, modern medicine for the most part have not yet perceived the plant as an effective therapeutic agent, and the social and legal barriers make it impossible to conduct appropriate studies on cannabis properties as medicament.
Potential medical uses cannabisa as a therapeutic agent increases annually by tens of percent, and is gaining in popularity, both among patients and among medical staff. Accordingly, the volume of cannabis use in pharmacological purposes is steadily increasing not only in Israel but also in other economically developed countries.
The Israeli program is to regulate the use of cannabis for medical purposes has evolved and undergone significant changes over the decades and is now overseen hemp Department Israeli Ministry of Health. Individual licenses for the use of cannabis as a medicine shall be issued in accordance with the recommendations of specialized medical professionals, whose specialization is directly related to the solution of health problems for which treatment is sought psychoactive hemp. At the moment, it is estimated the Israeli ministry of health professionals, such licenses issued in the country about 22 thousand. Licences are usually granted as a last resort treatment for patients whose disease does not respond to treatment with other traditional medicines or treatment techniques.
Despite the considerable experience gained in the use of cannabis as a medication given to the Israeli Ministry of Health show that a significant number of patients who have been granted an individual license for the use of psychoactive hemp not effectively use it. Named the reasons why patients are not in proper degree of use cannabis as an effective drug, namely:
- Barriers directly related to the patient (economic status, lifestyle, anxiety or other emotional factors associated with the use of cannabis as a medicine);
- Problems associated with health care providers (the interaction of the patient-doctor);
- Not quite the Israeli health care system (the high cost of the drug, a rather complicated system of obtaining access to it).
The accumulated research and statistics show that the psychoactive cannabis is an extremely promising drug for some groups of patients suffering from pain, cancer, AIDS, and Crohn's disease.
In world practice, there are different rules governing the granting of the possibility of using psychoactive cannabis as a medicine. The doctors operate the primary filter, which takes the decision to use psychoactive hemp patient as a medicament. In the future, the central or regional health authorities, considering the particular cases of the disease, decide on the possibility of issuing individual licenses for the use of cannabis for medical purposes. The international poll conducted by New England Journal shows that among patients hemp medicine finds a lot of support. However, in the circumstances of life the ability to use cannabis as a medicine until you meet the aspirations of people in need of these medications. For example, if at the level of medical personnel in the United States generally accepted decision to refuse the application of psychoactive cannabis as a therapeutic agent, the doctors in Israel are much more loyal to the possibility of applying cannabisa for individual patient treatment.
The relationship between patient and doctor is one of the key factors in the provision based on the use of cannabis medical care as a medicament. They affect not only the ability to produce a positive result of treatment, but also on the patient satisfaction of treatment process hemp commitment therapy, the effectiveness of treatment, etc.
In this regard, Israeli scientists were tasked by the government to investigate the degree of compliance with hemp medicine receiving mode among patients who have a license for the use of medical cannabis in Israel, as well as the identification of the factors that affect the management of patients using psychoactive hemp.
The following results were obtained during the research data:
- Patients exhibit a relatively high level of commitment to the medical use of cannabis as a medicine;
- There is a high level of safety of medical treatments and pharmaceutical products manufactured on the basis of hemp;
- There is a high level of satisfaction with the treatment results among patients licensed.
We can state that psychoactive hemp is a favorable treatment for a large number of diseases. In this regard, physicians and regulatory authorities of Israel shall provide access to the use of cannabis for medical purposes, for patients in need of this people.
An important result of the study is the conclusion of the need to improve the educational level of both patients and medical staff. According to Israeli experts, it is necessary to develop a standardized training program for patients to use medical cannabis and enter this course mandatory for all those who receive individual licenses on the use of cannabis for medical purposes.
As noted previously, the relationship between doctor and patient is an important factor in effective treatment with psychoactive hemp. In this connection it is necessary to implement educational programs aimed at improving the knowledge of health personnel on medicinal cannabis opportunities and diseases that can be treated with it.
Processes in providing care to patients on medicines based on cannabis must operate in real time, so that sick people receive timely medical care, and do not engage in overcoming various bureaucratic procedures.
