How cannabis can be used to purify water
“Stuck” in hemp fibers liquid with a high content of metals is much more intensively cleaned than the traditional methods of cleaning used at the moment. Further, the hemp filters “polluted” in this way are burned, and the metals are extracted for the purpose of their further use.
On the pages of the profile electronic edition of Ukrainian hempleaders, more than once the question was raised that “ Technical hemp, the main asset of the“ green industry ”described the“ Phytoremediation properties of technical hemp ”. This material raises the question of the technology developed in France for the use of a plant for the purification of liquids contaminated with metals, in particular the restoration of the original properties of drinking water.
A chemist from the University of Burgundy - Franche-Comte, Gregorio Crini (Grégorio Crini), has developed a method of using cannabis, suitable for cleaning water containing metals. At the moment, his method has passed the stage of laboratory tests.
According to Mr. Crini, “The hemp plant can be used in several ways to purify water. It is the fibrous structure of a plant that can most effectively be applied to clean contaminated liquids. Among other things, as a result of this kind of “filtering,” products are obtained that can later be effectively used in existing production chains. ”
In partnership with the cooperative Arc-le-Gray and laboratory in Lille, Gregorio Crini created a modified hemp felt, which can be effectively used for cleaning metal-contaminated liquids. In particular, sticking liquids with a high content of metals in hemp fibers are much more intensively cleaned than traditional methods of cleaning used at the moment. Further, the hemp filters “polluted” in this way are burned, and the metals are extracted for the purpose of their further use.
According to scientists, Mr. Crini created the simplest and most convenient way to clean liquids, primarily water, which was originally environmentally friendly. In particular, the technologies of water purification using hemp developed by a French scientist were tested by researchers from Romania and Italy. Within the framework of several joint projects, a number of joint experiments on this topic were righteous. For example, an international team of specialists conducted research at the University Regional Center Hospital (CHU) Besançon aimed at exploring the possibility of purifying water contaminated with fungicides.
According to experts from several European countries at once, the demonstrated results during the use of cannabis filtration methods clearly show an advantage in simplicity, environmental friendliness, and efficiency.
Commentary of the Association "Ukrainian technical hemp"
Dr. Gregorio Crini, a chemical engineer from the University of Burgundy Franche-Comté, is known for his research on the use of natural raw materials for water treatment. His numerous publications in this area, as well as projects already implemented, make him an internationally recognized authority in the field of cleaning contaminated liquids. The created technologies, as well as the installations are still laboratory, i.e. designed to clean small volumes of polluted liquids. The French scientist will need to find funding for the creation of a semi-industrial installation. In the event that the results of laboratory tests are repeated, it will be possible to talk about the introduction of technology for the purification of contaminated liquids using hemp filters at an industrial level.
