Cannabigerol Added to EU Cosmetic Database

heading_title

Cannabigerol effectively helps human skin to cope with anti-inflammatory, antibacterial diseases, and also has powerful antioxidant properties. The action of CBG on the outer skin of the human body can be effectively used to soothe inflammation, reduce blemishes, unclog pores, balance subcutaneous fat production, and improve skin regeneration.

In February 2021, we already raised the question of “ Why CBD will be used in cosmetic formulations ”. Attention was focused on the fact that several foreign breeding companies are simultaneously working on the introduction to the global market of specialized varieties of hemp plants rich in CBG. For example, the mechanism was described of “ How the Swiss enter the US market with a variety rich in cannabigerol ” or how the “ Canadian-Spanish alliance brings cannabigerol to the market of the maple leaf country””. The material presented below indicates a rather rapid reaction of European officials to the emergence of a new therapeutically active cannabinoid on the market, in particular, the regulation of its use in the market for cosmetic and hygiene products.

The European Commission has decided to use cannabigerol (CBG) as a legal ingredient in the production of cosmetics and skin care products. In April 2021, the European Commission added plant-based CBG as a safe ingredient that can be used in skincare to its Cosing database of cosmetic ingredients. The corresponding changes to the classification were made by the EU Directorate General for the Internal Market, Industry, Enterprise and SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises). European health and beauty manufacturers can now safely use the hemp-derived non-drug cannabinoid in their cosmetics and skin care lines with the approval of a key market regulator in the European Union.

Commentary of the specialists of the Association "Ukrainian technical hemp"

Plant-based cannabidiol was added to Cosing in February 2021, with hemp leaves and synthetic CBD being used as EU-approved ingredients for cosmetic formulations for quite some time. We can be glad for our colleagues from the EU, who are allowed to use another non-drug plant cannabinoid for the manufacture of cosmetics or skin care products.

CBG is known in the market as the "parent" cannabinoid due to the fact that it is the precursor to all other cannabinoids such as CBD (cannabidiol), CBN (cannabinol), CBC (cannabichromen), THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and THCA (tetrahydrocannabinol acid). By interacting with the endocannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2 located directly in the skin, plant cannabigerol effectively helps human skin to cope with anti-inflammatory, antibacterial diseases. In addition, this drug-free cannabinoid has powerful antioxidant properties. The action of CBG on the outer skin of the human body can be effectively used to soothe inflammation, reduce blemishes, unclog pores, balance subcutaneous fat production, and improve skin regeneration.
