China plans to regulate all synthetic cannabinoids

During the specialized round tables held within the framework of the Hemp University , national specialists who have been working with various therapeutically active elements of hemp for a long period of time constantly focus on the fact that synthetic cannabinoids with which they had to work are at least cardiotoxic and neurotoxic... Taking into account the segment of products that can be sold at the moment in the territory of our country (we take into account the peculiarities of the current legislation), we can say that the vast majority of products that are sold in Ukraine and have a designation on the labels that the composition the product includes cannabinoids not only do not have therapeutic properties, but are also dangerous in terms of side reactions of the human body to them.

China will become the first country in the world to regulate all synthetic cannabinoid substances, aiming to stay ahead of new variations, whose chemical properties are not yet subject to regulation, the country's Drug Control Administration told a press conference.

Synthetic cannabinoids are laboratory drugs originally designed to produce effects similar to those of hemp. During the briefing, Deputy Director of the China National Narcotics Control Commission Deng Ming, in particular, said that “the negative manifestations of the use of synthetic cannabinoids pose a much greater risk to human health than the use of natural constituents of the hemp plant. For the most part, the effects of synthetic cannabinoids on the body are unpredictable and pose a huge threat of significant side effects. By the end of 2020, there are 1,047 synthetic cannabinoid varieties globally in use, but not well understood. These substances are partly manufactured in China, partly imported into the country, including through smuggling. "

Another official of the China National Narcotics Control Commission, Yu Haibin, emphasized in his report that “the negative manifestations of the use of synthetic cannabinoids were especially evident in the western region of Xinjiang of China, where since 2018 the police have seized 16 kilograms of this kind of substances manufactured illegally and arrested 390 suspects involved in this illegal activity. Most of the substances hazardous to health were disguised as liquid used in electronic cigarettes. ”
