Hemp microgreens
Hemp microgreens are a commercially interesting product both in the nutraceutical market (products with powerful therapeutic potential) and as a traditional food product. It makes sense to germinate hemp grain not only for the purpose of selling it on the food market, but also for the extraction of exclusive therapeutically active elements from hemp microgreens, which are extremely in demand on the global market.

In 2024, our colleagues from the
company “ Lab Hemp ”, as part of one of
the projects of the “ Hemp
University ”, conducted a series of experiments aimed at studying
the properties of hemp microgreens. The editors of the specialized electronic
publication of national hemp growers asked the participants of the experiments
how promising the ideas of selling sprouted hemp seeds on the national market
are. Traditionally, the information provided to us is published without any
changes or cuts.
Sprouted seeds of radish, broccoli,
soybeans, arugula and many other vegetables have been a great addition to the
diet for many years, both as food and as a decoration for traditional dishes.
Microgreens are widely used in salads, soups, cocktails, smoothies, and other
drinks and dishes. Due to the high content of nutrients, such food is
considered very promising, and its consumption is steadily growing. That is why
a number of experiments were conducted to determine the feasibility of
commercializing hemp microgreens on the Ukrainian market.
Initially, it is necessary to emphasize that hemp sprouts are an unrivaled source of all essential amino acids necessary for the human body. They contain edestin, a unique protein that is easily absorbed by our body and provides a person with a quick boost of energy. Hemp microgreens contain a stable ratio of omega-3 and omega-6. These plant fats are considered excellent neuroprotectors that effectively prevent neurodegenerative diseases.

In addition, hemp microgreens contain
high levels of cannaflavins A, B, and C. Cannaflavins (flavonoids with unique
anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and anti-cancer properties) are substances that
are found in sufficient quantities only in the hemp plant. To date, cannaflavin
is the most expensive substance obtained from hemp. Currently, it is produced
commercially exclusively synthetically ( FBL -03 G ), since it is extremely difficult to extract it from the
plant itself.
Hemp sprouts are also recognized as
the plant with the highest level of phytoestrogens (a powerful neuroprotector),
which, for example, are excellent in preventing PMS symptoms in women.
It is worth noting that hemp seed
sprouts have a much lower concentration of oxalates (extremely toxic, an
antinutrient that binds with calcium, preventing the body from absorbing it)
than traditional types of microgreens.
Conclusions : Hemp microgreens are a commercially interesting product both in the nutraceutical market (products with powerful therapeutic potential) and as a traditional food product. It makes sense to germinate hemp grain not only for the purpose of selling it on the food market, but also for the extraction of exclusive therapeutically active elements from hemp microgreens, which are in great demand on the global market.
