LEGO will use hemp for all manufactured toys by 2030

Plastic has always been at the heart of the vast empire that LEGO Grop has created over the past 60 years. Until recently, a huge Danish company used exclusively plastic made from derived petroleum products, but over the next 10 years, LEGO management intends to replace its main production material with renewable environmentally friendly hemp-based bioplastics.

According to the Plastic News information resource, the world-famous Danish toy company LEGO gradually began entering the fast-growing hemp market in order to use the plant for all their product groups by 2030.

Until recently, LEGO always used plastic made from petroleum products, and therefore it is not surprising that the company has repeatedly faced serious environmental problems. It is for this reason that the LEGO GROUP is looking for a replacement for plastic from derivatives of fossil raw materials and plans to completely replace the plastic with biocomposite materials based on hemp by 2030.

According to Danish technologists, hemp plant is an ideal material for the production of bioplastics due to the high content of cellulose in it. According to unofficial information from LEGO, the Danes have created a special formula for a new, extremely durable biodegradable material that is made from hemp and can completely replace plastic.

The Danish company over the past few years has been investing millions in order to get rid of dependence on traditional types of plastics. By 2030, at least 60 million individual elements of LEGO constructors produced annually by the company will have to be made from hemp based bio-composite materials.

Hemp is an affordable, environmentally friendly and renewable natural material from which biocomposites are made, which are an excellent alternative to traditional types of plastics. In particular, according to a statement by company manager Alan Rasmussen, which was recently distributed to the media, “We found a biocomposite material that is as good as the one we use now. Our experts are convinced that hemp-based bioplastics for the LEGO GROUP production have the same properties as the currently used materials, which can be reused after 50 years. ”

The next course of students of the “ Hemp University ” will be recruited for training in October-November 2019. During the second day of the “ Hemp University ” a round table will be held “ Hemp raw materials - technologies for its use in construction, production of biocomposite materials and furniture ”.
