Hemp cellulose makeup can compete with conventional cosmetics
With its natural emulsifying and stabilizing properties, hemp cellulose can play an important role in cosmetic products. Due to the absorption effect of hemp, the cleaning process of the base made from hemp cellulose effectively removes excess oil and air pollutants from the skin's surface, similar to how cellulose acts during digestion and intestinal metabolism.
A team from Sichuan University of China has created a cellulose-based liquid cosmetic foundation made from hemp stalks that researchers say has several exclusive properties over regular makeup. In particular, the substance made from hemp cellulose nanocrystals replaces ingredients such as mineral oil and titanium oxide, which are commonly used in cosmetic products. For example, a foundation made from hemp cellulose helps reduce damage to the skin barrier because it does not require the “harsh” detergents needed to cleanse conventional “bases” to remove it. It is the “harsh” cleansers that cause skin problems such as sensitivity and rosacea.
In the course of the experiments, the research team members were tasked with finding a new alternative material that could effectively prevent damage to the skin barrier caused by excessive cleaning of the skin surface of makeup. With its natural emulsifying and stabilizing properties, hemp cellulose can play an important role in cosmetic products.
Demonstrating adhesion similar to the traditional base, the hemp cellulose cosmetic formula maintained a stable gloss and uniform colors for nine hours, the researchers said. The analysis showed that the effectiveness of a foundation made using hemp cellulose is comparable to that of a conventional foundation in terms of facial pigmentation and acne.
Chinese scientists argue that dermoscopic observation of human tests has shown that the base of cosmetics made using hemp cellulose leaves less residue than a conventional base when simply wiped with a cotton pad. It has been observed that the hemp cellulose base remains on the surface of the skin, while the regular base penetrates into the dermis or the second layer of the skin, which can lead to its damage.
Due to the absorption effect of hemp, the cleaning process of the base made from hemp cellulose effectively removes excess oil and air pollutants from the skin's surface, similar to how cellulose acts during digestion and intestinal metabolism.
Commentary of the specialists of the Association "Ukrainian technical hemp"
Microfibrillated cellulose from other plants is increasingly found in cosmetics, so the initiative of Sichuan University employees is a logical development of the latest technologies in the hemp cosmetics market.
In the course of the research “Hemp beauty industry in the world and in Ukraine (from the use of derivatives of grain, young shoots and roots in the formulations of cosmetic preparations, to the“ green mass ”of a hemp plant)" carried out by the specialists of the information and analytical platform Hemp Consulting "the expediency of using the fibrous part of the plant during a separate section is devoted to the preparation of formulations of cosmetic preparations made from hemp raw materials.
As part of the training of the 6th stream of students of the " Hemp University ", a round table " Problems and prospects of using therapeutically active elements of hemp as a basis for nutraceuticals, medicinal cosmetics, animal feed or other products with medicinal plant properties " will be held. Presentations on the topic “ Medical cosmetics, the formulation of which includes various hemp ingredients ” will be concentrated in a separate panel of the above event .
