USDA is studying the effectiveness of using hemp in beauty products
Hemp seed derivatives contain a huge amount of nutrients, primarily fatty acids, as well as bioactive compounds that can be converted into special chemicals that provide the consumer with new properties that are beneficial to his body.
The research arm of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is working to find more effective ways to use hemp seed derivatives (primarily hemp oil) in cosmetics. In particular, the Agricultural_Research_Service (ARS) has officially announced that it is starting a 24-month joint project with the Midwest Bioprocessing Center (which specializes in the production of organic cosmetics and pharmaceuticals).
The aim of this kind of research is to find effective ways to use hemp raw materials, rather than chemicals and solvents, in order to catalyze reactions that bind natural antioxidants, such as ferulic acid, with lipids contained in hemp oil. It is interesting that there are no restrictions on the financing of this project.
The ARS USDA staff communicated with the media representatives that this kind of partnership could open up new opportunities for the use of various hemp derivatives in "cosmeceuticals" - professional luxury cosmetics. In particular, the effectiveness of using the various ingredients of the hemp plant for skin care will be studied in as much detail as possible. This will primarily concern those components of the hemp plant that perform the following functions - protecting the skin from ultraviolet radiation, retaining moisture, or stabilizing other therapeutically active ingredients used in modern cosmetic formulations.
