“Science Park Zveinarde” with an area of about 35 hectares is in the stage of complete development, therefore, the total strengthening of the sandy soil with the help of sowing technical hemp is a rather original construction solution. It is based on the historical experience of strengthening river beds with hemp crops, which until recently were widely used in Europe. In addition, the use of plant-based building materials grown on the island is an economically viable solution, demonstrating not only the commitment of Belgian engineers to “green technologies”, but also a pragmatic approach to project implementation, which implies a significant reduction in the cost of erection of buildings and structures due to those grown directly on the island. building materials.

On the business island in Zweinard, in 2021, industrial hemp is grown in order to strengthen loose soils on the one hand, and on the other to prepare local materials of plant origin for their further use in construction.

Thus, according to Beatrice De Vos, a scientist participating in the project from the University of Ghent, “The use of industrial hemp will lead to less soil erosion, as well as the formation of a minimum amount of dust. Derivatives of the fibrous part of the plant are effectively used in modern ecological construction, therefore, in the course of the implementation of this project, we get several indisputable advantages at once - we strengthen the soil for the safety of the planned work and get local building materials used in the future for the construction of buildings and structures on the island. "

According to the already approved construction plans, the business park will house companies specializing in the knowledge economy, as well as logistics and transport.
