New technologies of using hemp fiber for the production of fabrics
We have established partnerships with top-class experts in the field of hemp processing in order to develop fiber softening technology that uses extremely little energy. They achieved impressive results, in which hemp fabric not only looks, but more importantly, feels almost indistinguishable from cotton.
In the course of cooperation with Outerknown, the branded American clothing manufacturer Levi's has created a collection of denim products made from hemp fabric. Two brands have more than once interacted in the field of creating new technologies that allow expanding the possibilities of using new fabrics in the textile market, but this is the first time in the history of their cooperation, when a joint collection uses the harvest of hemp fiber grown in 2018.
An official report from Levi Strauss & Co states that “We have established partnerships with top-class experts in the field of cannabis processing in order to develop a fiber softening technology that uses extremely little energy. They achieved impressive results, in which hemp fabric not only looks, but more importantly, feels almost indistinguishable from cotton. ”
The massive use of hemp fiber in textile production requires the solution of a number of related problems. Until recently, a feature of products from hemp fiber was that hemp textiles are durable, have a lot of therapeutic properties, but at the same time rough / rough to the touch. In addition, cotton is the basis of modern textile industry, and this factor significantly impedes the interest of processors in the use of hemp fiber. There are many other infrastructural and regulatory problems associated with the production of various consumer goods made from hemp fiber.
Despite this, new technologies developed by American companies for the processing of hemp fiber are a huge breakthrough for the entire textile industry.
Commentary of the Association "Ukrainian technical hemp"
Hemp fiber is often advertised as a natural material with a number of exclusive properties that can be used to produce almost the entire range of modern goods - from the manufacture of textiles and knitwear to the construction of buildings and the production of cars. Supporters of hemp fiber welcome its environmental friendliness, strength and therapeutic characteristics. According to most American analysts, in the US alone, the hemp market over the next few years will reach tens of billions of dollars. Despite the global trend in the introduction of hemp fiber in various modern production chains, it must be stated that it is the lack of appropriate processing technologies, and in some cases the legal unregulated ability to work with hemp raw materials hinders the development of the hemp industry not only in the economically developed countries of the world, but and in Ukraine.
