The opening of Latin America's largest medical cannabis plantation

Chilean authorities officially announced the opening of the largest in South America medical cannabis plantation, which marked another step towards the reform of cannabis in the country.

Plantation, numbering about 6,900 bushes of hemp, located under Kolbun town, located 275 kilometers south of Santiago. According to organizers of the plantation, it must supply the needs of the medical program of the country which, at the moment, has approximately 4,000 members throughout Chile.

The opening of this plantation is a continuation of the medical project of the country, which began with the opening of the first small experimental plantation located at Santiago.

The project manager, Ana Maria Gazmuri says that the attitude to medical cannabis and its use has become much more acceptable in the eyes of Chilean society than ever before. According to her, "This plantation will be only the first step towards further, the official recognition of the country and its people, the medical properties of cannabis."

The project's organizers hope to raise for the coming spring harvest 1.5 tons of cannabis, under the guidance of experts from the Ministry of Agriculture.

Harvest will be sent to the laboratory at several leading universities in Chile, where they will develop drugs for the treatment of various severe, including chronic diseases, ranging from epilepsy to cancer and AIDS.

In addition to Chile, on reforms of the laws against cannabis in Latin America are currently working to Uruguay, which fully legalized the use of psychoactive cannabis in 2013.
