Advantages of hemp particle boards

A special feature of hemp chipboard is a huge number of microscopic alveoli filled with air, in which continuous processes of micro-condensation and micro-evaporation occur. 

It’s no secret that “ Hemp is an extremely promising construction raw material .” However, for the most part, construction companies pay attention to the possibilities of using hemp raw materials as a basis for the production of fire concrete, hemp bricks or blocks. In this article, with a small touch, I would like to focus on construction technologies that produce various kinds of sheet composite products used for interior finishing work, which are based on the exclusive properties of the hemp plant.

The period of use of various hemp components in finishing materials goes back several thousand years. For example, “ The history of hemp plaster goes back about one and a half thousand years ,” in Italy in the fifteenth century Leon Battista Alberti was actively involved in this issue, so it is not surprising that in the last decade a number of companies in the construction market of the EU and North America have been actively working to promote chipboard, OSB boards , based on the exclusive properties of hemp. 

I would like to focus the attention of our dear readers and listeners on the research of our Italian colleagues regarding the creation of particle boards from hemp. It is noted that A special feature of this product is a huge number of microscopic alveoli filled with air, in which continuous processes of micro-condensation and micro-evaporation occur. 

Hemp chipboards allow you to block the passage of heat and cold from outside to inside the building, constantly maintaining humidity at an optimal level. This guarantees thermal insulation, sound insulation, thermal inertia and humidity control. According to the tests carried out, humidity is constantly maintained between 50% and 165%, which guarantees exceptional and constant living comfort in rooms where hemp chipboards are used. For example, with a ten-centimeter layer of chipboard cladding with hemp board, heating or cooling a room is much easier than using other inorganic insulation materials. This results in significant energy savings, which quickly offset the additional costs associated with the use of hemp finishing materials.

In our country, the specialized association of Ukrainian hemp growers, together with the teaching staff of the “ Hemp University ” specializing in this issue, is working to create technologies that make it possible to use hemp raw materials for the production of various materials used for interior decoration of buildings, as well as sheet composite products. In addition, technologies have been developed in Ukraine that predetermine the use of therapeutically active hemp raw materials for the production of various types of finishing materials that have significant therapeutic potential.
