Methods of commercialization of hemp root

heading_title

Hemp roots are extremely rich in therapeutically active elements, which are suitable for use as one of the main ingredients for the production of various types of cosmetic products or topical agents.

Various skin diseases, hematomas, osteoarthritis complaints and bruises can often be treated externally using preparations made from the therapeutic properties of hemp root. Considering the fact that within the framework of one of the projects of the "Hemp University" the root of the hemp plant is studied from the point of view of its commercialization, the editors of the specialized electronic publication of national hemp growers asked specialists studying its potential in practice to tell how effectively this kind of hemp raw material can be used for industrial purposes. Traditionally, the information provided is published without any changes or cuts.

There are various ancient methods of preparing hemp root to utilize its exclusive therapeutic properties. Raw roots can be prepared by grinding and crushing the plant to extract its juice. There are numerous references to hemp root preparations made with water in various ancient medical treatises. There are especially many references to the use of hemp root decoctions published in the 17th and 18th centuries. For example, hemp root decoction was widely used to relieve joint stiffness, treat gout, and related conditions. In addition, there are publications where fresh ground root, juice, or decoction is mixed with various natural ingredients (fat, vegetable or butter) or wine for further use in cosmetics or topical products.

The currently available pharmacological data on the various components of hemp root largely support historical claims of their clinical efficacy. In particular, modern hemp dispensaries in the United States sell products made from hemp root, including body lotions, ointments, lip balms, massage oils, and pet sprays.

What is exclusive about hemp root?

By studying a significant amount of information concerning hemp root, one can find out that this raw material is rich in various therapeutically active substances. In particular, the following ingredients have been found in the roots of the hemp plant, which are extremely interesting for commercialization:

        triterpenes (stress regulation effect) - friedelin (12.8 mg/kg – antioxidant) and epifriedelanol (21.3 mg/kg – antitumor);

        alkaloids - cannabisativin (2.5 mg/kg – analgesic) and anhydrocannabisativin (0.3 mg/kg – analgesic);

        carvone and dihydrocarvone (affect mammalian fat cells); N- (p-hydroxy- β -phenylethyl)-p-hydroxy-trans-cinnamide (1.6 mg/kg);

        various sterols - sitosterol (1.5%), campesterol (0.78%) and stigmasterol (0.56%) - all of them reduce cholesterol levels;

        choline (has a direct effect on the nervous system, has a muscle relaxant effect and has a beneficial effect on skin cell renewal).

National experience use hemp root

Experiments show that hemp root included in cosmetics or topical products has a therapeutic effect on bruises and hematomas, and also improves the condition of the skin, in particular, it dramatically reduces the number of problems associated with inflammation and dysfunction of the sebaceous glands. Below is a short list of problems for which it is effective to use hemp root in the formulation of the drugs used: eczema, psoriasis, acne, dry skin, stretch marks, burns (including sunburn), bruises/sprains, osteoarthritis/rheumatic pain, gout, bruises, fungal infections, various types of inflammation, etc.

Conclusion : Despite renewed interest in pharmacotherapy using cannabis flowers and extracts (including stems and leaves) in developed countries, research on cannabis roots remains largely ignored. Although cannabis roots are not a significant source of phytocannabinoids or terpenes, They are extremely rich in other therapeutically active elements, which can be used as one of the main ingredients for the production of various types of cosmetic products or topical agents.
