Doane University teaches the basics of modern hemp breeding
In Ukraine, documents that meet the requirements of the state and confirm the qualifications of employees of an enterprise planning to legally engage in modern hemp breeding are received by students of the Hemp University.
A private liberal arts college in the state of Nebraska has become another university offering a training program for students interested in continuing to work in the hemp industry in the United States. This fall, Doane University launched an online three-course program called “The Science and Industry of Hemp - From Growing to Consumer Products.”
The curriculum developed by industry experts together with scientists specializing in various fields of hemp industry covers topics that include: hemp science; therapeutic properties of the plant; cultivation and processing; regulatory framework and the procedure for the legal cultivation / processing / sales; profitability; professions of modern hemp breeding. Upon completion of the training program, graduates will receive a “Professional Hemp Certificate”.
One of the main organizers of the training is Professor of Chemistry Andrea Holmes, who, among other representatives of the faculty, will give lectures as part of the hemp curriculum. Associate Dean for Health Sciences, Executive Director of the Institute for Human Health Amanda McKinney participated in the development of the program. Dr. McKinney was responsible for developing an educational program in the use of the therapeutic properties of hemp.
According to Ms. McKinney, “Hemp has been studied in detail and a lot of information has been published in the medical literature about the benefits that can be obtained by using the various components of a plant. Despite the fact that cannabinoids are not a panacea for all diseases, they can and should be used, because they are safe and effective for treating a huge number of diseases. Therefore, the training program is based on studying the basics of hemp science, understanding the innovations of modern hemp breeding, advanced pedagogy and will expand over time as the industry develops, as well as changes in the regulatory framework governing it. ”
Commentary of the Ukrainian Technical Hemp Association
Higher educational institutions of the state of Nebraska are among the most recent in the USA to turn their attention to the acute shortage of specialists in the field of modern hemp breeding. This is due to the fact that only in May 2018 the governor of this administrative-territorial unit of the United States signed a law regulating the cultivation of industrial crops of technical hemp in the state. In accordance with the provisions of the above normative legal act, farmers and enterprises working in the field of industrial hemp breeding can produce and sell technical hemp on its territory without any legal consequences. At the same time, the use of cannabisa for medical and recreational purposes on the state is prohibited.
In Ukraine, documents that meet the requirements of the state and confirm the qualifications of employees of an enterprise planning to legally engage in modern hemp breeding are received by students of the Hemp University . Within the framework of the training course, the specialized Association of Ukrainian Horse-breeders regularly holds various forms of training (seminars, conferences, round tables, master classes, etc.) on topics that are relevant in the world of modern horse-breeding. The next course of students of the “ Hemp University ” is recruited for training on November 11-12, 2019. During the second day of the event, a round table " Hemp raw materials - technologies for its use in construction, production of biocomposite materials and furniture " will be held.
