Study shows non-drug cannabinoids may help relieve debilitating neuropathic pain

heading_title

During the use of therapeutically active leaves and inflorescences of hemp variety "Mriya", patients completely disappeared or significantly stopped pain due to exposure to irritants that usually do not cause pain (allodynia). There are facts of a significant reduction or complete relief of phantom pains that torment patients after limb amputations.

A three-year (preclinical) neuropathic pain study by the New Zealand company Cannasouth confirmed that non-narcotic cannabinoids derived from industrial hemp may be effective in reducing the debilitating neuropathic pain that affects about 400,000 New Zealanders, or 8 percent of the country's population.

Neuropathic pain usually results from physical damage, infection, and diseases such as diabetes. It is caused by damage or damage to the nerves that carry information between the brain and spinal cord from the skin, muscles, and other parts of the body. The pain is usually described as a burning sensation, and the affected areas are often overly sensitive to touch and have a significant adverse effect on the patient's quality of life.

Cannasouth Chief Scientist David Gill argues that neuropathic pain is currently poorly treated with conventional therapies available in New Zealand. “These options include anticonvulsants such as gabapentin or antidepressants. However, both of these drugs can cause significant side effects or adverse effects on patients, including sedation and addiction. At the same time, drug-free natural cannabinoids could become a much-needed alternative treatment option for clinicians and patients. These studies clearly demonstrate the comparable efficacy of the use of non-narcotic natural cannabinoids with gabapentin.”

Research and findings

The study determined the effectiveness of the use of selected non-narcotic plant-derived cannabinoids in relieving symptoms in a preclinical model of distal and proximal peripheral neuropathy and neuropathic pain. As part of the experiments, a dosing study was conducted using oral herbal cannabidiol preparations using a placebo and a positive control, gabapentin at a clinically relevant dose. It is noted that the effectiveness of the use of individual natural non-narcotic cannabinoids was comparable to the effectiveness of gabapentin after single and multiple doses with a faster onset of action in the first 4 hours. No effect was noted for the placebo formulation. The study showed a clear CBD dosage strategy that provided the greatest improvement in pain symptoms.

Information received from our European colleagues also indicates that non-narcotic cannabinoids of natural origin can alleviate or completely stop pain syndromes. The experience of using biologically active additives in Europe, made on the basis of the therapeutic properties of technical hemp of the therapeutic orientation of the Mriya variety, indicates that this raw material can be used to treat or relieve problems associated with neuropathic pain. In particular, when working with patients suffering from various forms of diabetes, it was noted that during the use of therapeutically active leaves and inflorescences of hemp variety “Mriya”, patients completely lost or significantly stopped pain due to exposure to irritants that usually do not cause pain (allodynia). There are facts of a significant reduction or complete relief of phantom pains that torment patients after limb amputations.
