How the executive branch of Paraguay is promoting the development of modern cannabis production

The level of activities carried out by government officials in Paraguay suggests that the development of cannabis farming in the country has been identified as one of the priority areas of development. I would like to draw attention to the fact that the solution of issues related to the development of modern cannabis breeding is being addressed in a comprehensive manner, for which an Interdepartmental Commission has been created, which works on a permanent basis, and the head of the executive branch of Paraguay takes part in the activities of this structure. 

Hemp in Paraguay is grown, processed and used to produce various groups of goods. The most actively developing sphere in the country is the use of hemp raw materials as various ingredients for the preparation of a range of food products, as well as business sectors related to the production of textiles or knitwear and footwear. A significant part of the hemp products produced in the country have export potential and are already supplied to the market of economically developed countries of the world, primarily to Canada and the United States. 

Within the framework of the Interdepartmental Commission on February 24, a regular meeting was held at which the Ministers of Industry and Trade of Paraguay Luis Castillon, Agriculture and Livestock Moises Bertoni, Head of the National Secretariat for the Fight against Drugs Zulli Rolona, ​​President of the National Service for the Quality of Plants and Seeds Rodrigo Gonzalez, representatives of the national Institute of Agricultural Technology Edgar Esteche and the Technical Cabinet of the MIC Luis Elias, as well as employees of government ministries and departments specializing in various aspects of activities related to modern cannabis growing. During the meeting, representatives of the state structures of Paraguay not only reported on the events held in 2020 related to the development of various sectors of modern cannabis farming in the country, but also announced their plans for 2021 to introduce a number of innovations aimed at solving problems in the industry, which were prepared for based on decisions taken during the Interdepartmental Commission on February 8, 2021.

In 2020, hemp was declared a "crop of national interest" for the country, a national program was created to intensify the development and commercialization of this area of ​​farming, various activities were initiated to provide methodological assistance, as well as training agricultural producers in the basics of modern hemp growing. ... In addition, the Chamber of Industrial Hemp of Paraguay was formed, and a structure was created that should coordinate work with specialized associations, as well as individual agricultural producers to develop the most promising sectors of modern cannabis production.

On February 8, President of the Republic Mario Abdo Benitez chaired an interagency meeting at which, in addition to the government officials mentioned in the material, the Minister of Health and Welfare Julio Mazzoleni was present. The event was devoted to the analysis of the situation in the field of cultivation / processing / sales of hemp products manufactured in Paraguay, as well as the identification of promising niches of modern hemp breeding, which national producers / processors can occupy in the global hemp market.
