Drug-free cannabinoids can be an effective tool for the treatment of a number of painful conditions that modern medicine cannot cope with or which are extremely difficult to control with known pharmacological drugs and methods of their use.

California University in San Diego (University of California, San Diego, UCSD) will receive from the state in which it is a grant for the study of the properties of cannabidiol. The funds will be divided between five research projects aimed at studying the effectiveness of cannabidiol for the treatment of psychosis, rheumatoid arthritis, insomnia, alcoholism and anorexia nervosa.

The research will be carried out on the basis of the Center for medicinal cannabis research at UCSD, which is already searching for cannabidiol-based treatment methods for children with severe autism. Currently, the Center is conducting clinical trials of three methods of using the plant:

- the effect of cannabisa and its constituent elements on neuropathic pain associated with HIV;

- the effect of hemp spray on neuropathic pain in the lumbar region;

- assessment of the consequences of driving a car under the influence of hemp.

According to Igor Grant, director of the Center for Research on Therapeutic Properties of Cannabis at the University of California, San Diego, “There is a huge interest among physicians in the use of the therapeutic properties of cannabis , including cannabidiol. There is hope that it is the non-drug cannabinoids that can become an effective treatment for a number of painful conditions that modern medicine cannot cope with or which are extremely difficult to stop with well-known pharmacological drugs and methods of their use. ”

Commentary of the Ukrainian Technical Hemp Association

Research funds in California are deductible from hemp business taxes arising from legal sales in accredited clinics. A previous study on autism treatment is funded by a $ 4.7 million grant from the Ray and Tye Noorda Foundation. The above grant remains the largest private donation to research the therapeutic properties of hemp in the United States . UCSD scientists have been studying the therapeutic properties of hemp since 2000 and have already been able to publish two basic studies. In 2007, the Center reported that hemp is an effective way to treat neuropathic pain (the results are published in the journal Anesthesiology). In 2012, a clinical study conducted at the Center showed that the use of cannabisa minimized the symptoms of multiple sclerosis (the results are published in the journal Canadian Medical Association).

Up-to-date information on studies of the therapeutic properties of technical hemp of a therapeutic nature can be obtained in the course of the “ Hemp University ” NUBiP of Ukraine, held on December 16-17 at the Educational and Scientific Institute of Continuing Education and Tourism . In particular, during the round table “ The use of cannabinoids in the treatment of severe / chronic diseases ”, a separate presentation will be devoted to “ Current breeding efforts aimed at creating the latest varieties of cannabisa with a powerful therapeutic effect ."
