Who will pay for the cost of hemp pharmaceuticals in Australia
In economically developed countries, various sectors of modern cannabis growing are developing, providing opportunities for using the therapeutic potential of the plant at a minimal cost (nutraceuticals, various kinds of additives, cosmetics, etc.) or the cultivation of a hemp plant for personal use is regulated. Considering the fact that on the territory of our country, varieties of technical hemp with a therapeutic orientation have already been created and cultivated on an industrial scale, it makes sense from a commercial point of view to consider the issue of establishing various types of production based on the use of its medicinal properties for industrial purposes, and facilitating the possibility citizens of the country to cultivate varieties of hemp plants entered in the state register that have significant therapeutic potential
On the pages of the specialized electronic edition of national cannabis growers, more than once attention was focused on the fact that the second stage after regulating the possibility of using hemp-based pharmaceuticals by patients is lobbying for reimbursement of their cost from the state budget. Just a few weeks ago, the editors published information that “ In Ireland, the cost of hemp-based pharmaceuticals will be reimbursed by the state”. Particular cynicism of the mechanism lobbied by pharmacologists is demonstrated in Germany, where, on the one hand, the country's budget compensates for the cost of medicines made on the basis of the therapeutic properties of cannabis, and on the other hand, about 40% of German consumers refuse to use them due to the fact that side negative effects on the body more than the therapeutic effect ( under the ideal conditions of the experiment being conducted in France, the number of “refuseniks” reaches 22% ). Australia may become one of the next states in which the question of compensation for the cost of hemp-based pharmaceuticals is raised.
The scheme, developed by two Australian companies (MedCan Australia and Cann I Help), subsidizes the cost of medical cannabis, which initially provides Australian patients with medications based on the therapeutic properties of the plant for almost half the cost.
The Compassionate Access Program, developed by the aforementioned two companies (once again the name suggests it is primarily an emotional one), prescribes subsidies for patients to cover the cost of cannabis medicinal products manufactured by MedCan Australia.
According to Cann I Help staff, the Compassionate Access Program is a way to lend a helping hand. We do not want patients to be deprived of access to drugs based on the therapeutic properties of cannabis for cost reasons. ” According to the data provided, already about 34% of Cann I Help patients participate in the subsidy program; and about 6% of them receive the “highest subsidies”.

The use of the therapeutic properties of the hemp plant in the form of pharmacological preparations has been regulated in Australia since 2016. The monthly expenses for the purchase of medicinal products made on the basis of the hemp plant range from several hundred to several thousand dollars. The use of medicinal hemp and plant-based pharmaceuticals is not currently covered by the Australian Pharmacological Benefit Scheme.
MedCan Australia specializes in the cultivation and production of medical cannabis. Cann I Help has partnered with therapists and specialists across the country to create a network of healing clinics specializing in the therapeutic properties of the cannabis plant.
In all countries of the world, the consumer / patient wants to get the maximum therapeutic effect at the lowest financial cost on his part. The use of hemp-based pharmacological preparations involves the payment of a patent, which in some cases amounts to up to 90% of the cost of the therapeutic agent itself.
