Who is the leader in hemp breeding in Europe

heading_title

The profitability of modern hemp plant directly depends on the established production capacities for primary / deep processing (primarily with regard to hemp straw / trust ). Including, therefore, the Association initiated amendments to the relevant decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine , certain provisions of which do not allow the primary / deep processing of hemp straw / trust to function normally , thereby significantly reducing the profitability of cultivation of industrial hemp in Ukraine .

According to data provided by our colleagues from Europe , the leaders of hemp breeding in the European continent in 2018 with the maximum hemp sowing areas were France (37% of the market), the Netherlands , and Italy (about 8%). In the three countries mentioned above , more than 50% of European hemp sown areas were cultivated . The total amount under this crop compared with 2017 increased by 3.3%.

The sowing area of industrial hemp in Europe in 2018 amounted to 50,081 ha. Cultivation statistics for various countries of the continent are as follows : France (17,900 ha); Italy (4000 ha); Netherlands (3833 ha); Estonia (3538 ha); Romania (3400 ha); Germany (3114 ha); Poland (1708 ha); Austria (1583 ha); Ukraine (1500 ha); Lithuania (1470 ha); Latvia (875 ha); Croatia (857 ha); Finland (844 ha); Czech Republic (699 ha); Slovakia (460 ha); Bulgaria (450 ha); Denmark (420 ha); Ireland (370 ha); Serbia (300 ha); Great Britain (292 ha); Slovenia (290 ha); Belgium (188 ha); Spain (130 ha); Greece (119 ha); Sweden (15 ha); Hungary (10 ha); Luxembourg (7 ha); Portugal (3 ha).

Commentary experts of the Association " Ukrainian industrial hemp "

It should be noted that compared with 1993, the number of industrial crops of industrial hemp in Europe increased by 614%. Over the past five years, growth has averaged around 70%. Despite the fact that, according to preliminary data, in 2019 the acreage in Europe increased slightly , but only plus 3% of the acreage in 2018 compared to 2017 indicates market saturation . Significant sown areas in France , the Netherlands , as well as Romania once again emphasize the common truth - the profitability of modern hemp growers directly depends on the established production capacities for primary / deep processing (primarily for hemp straw / trust ). Including, therefore, the Association initiated amendments to the relevant resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine , certain provisions of which do not allow the primary / deep processing of hemp straw / trust to function normally , thereby significantly reducing the profitability of cultivation of industrial hemp in Ukraine .
