“Hemp harvesting experience” in photos
The highlight of the event, which will take place from 1 to 14 August, will be black and white tinted photographs of the author, made by hand. They are the ones who most reliably convey the hard work of our grandparents, who 30-40 years ago were proud of the fact that they specialize in the cultivation, processing or sale of "hemp" or using products made from the highest-margin agricultural crops both in the last century and now ...
The history of cannabis growing goes back several millennia. Growing, processing, using a hemp plant on the territory of modern Ukraine has always been an honorable and most profitable activity. In Ukrainian families, from time immemorial, the best piece of their own land was allocated for sowing precisely "hemp", as the most highly profitable agricultural crop is still affectionately called. Ukrainians, like representatives of other Slavic peoples, honor the centuries-old hemp traditions, remember sayings, sing songs that demonstrate respect for the plant that has fed, clothed, warmed, healed for centuries, acting as an analogue of "hard currency" for centuries.
The hemp industry of all known empires in history (British, Austro-Hungarian, Ottoman, Russian, Spanish, Chinese, Portuguese, French, Japanese, etc.) was one of the pillars of their economies. In the last century, the USSR controlled 5/6 of the world hemp market, and industrial hemp, as well as products made from the plant, brought in foreign currency to the Soviet economy as much as the oil industry of the union state earned at that time.
The traditions of cannabis breeding on Ukrainian lands were not lost either during the period of joining Tsarist Russia, or when we were called the Ukrainian SSR. Back in the 60s of the last century, about 120 thousand hectares of industrial crops of low-narcotic hemp were cultivated on the territory of our country, 36 processing plants operated in independent Ukraine in the 90s, our breeding and seed-growing achievements, as they were, remain so fundamental that the leaders of the global hemp market (Chinese, French, Americans, Canadians, Swiss, Poles, Lithuanians, Chileans, etc.) still come to Ukraine to learn the basics of modern hemp breeding.
Modern cannabis farming in Ukraine is not without difficulties, but it continues to develop. On the territory of our country, just over the past 1.5 years, several large production facilities for the processing of hemp fiber and grain have been launched at once, the issue of regulatory support of opportunities for using the therapeutic properties of technical hemp is being actively resolved. It is in order to emphasize the connection of times, as well as to emphasize the inviolability of the traditions of the national hemp industry, the profile association of Ukrainian cannabis growers supports the initiative of the employees of the Kmytiv art museum, who, together with the National Union of Photographers of Ukraine (NSFU), initiated a photo exhibition of the deserved cultural worker of our country, head of the NSFU Eduard Stranadko "The experience of harvesting hemp".
