Potential for the production of various technical hemp compounds with therapeutic effect

heading_title

The possibilities of applying the “ensemble effect” in the treatment of severe, including chronic, diseases were substantively discussed during the round tables “ Cannabinoid Therapy ” and “ Nutrition and Hemp ”, held as part of the “ Hemp University ”. This is all the more relevant because several types of therapeutic hemp are registered on the territory of our country, the leaves and inflorescences of plants of which have a powerful therapeutic effect and, in the case of elementary changes to the current regulatory framework, these plants can be grown and universally used by almost all citizens our country.

Cannabidiol, better known under the acronym CBD, has become a household name in recent years. The therapeutic effect of the use of CBD, which is one of the many compounds found in hemp plants, caused a real stir several years ago. This cannabinoid has already been marketed in the form of drugs, dietary supplements, food, cosmetics, etc. The growth dynamics of cannabidiol-based products is so huge that world leading analysts predict a significant increase in sales of this drug-free cannabinoid, which in the USA by 2024 may reach $ 20 billion. The potential of the CBD industry makes us think more and more about how to create our own business in this industry. However, how effective is the use of a single cannabinoid compared to the "ensemble effect" we will try to partially reveal in this material.

Cannabidiol is one of several hundred cannabinoid compounds found in hemp plants. If tetrahydrocannabinol (THC / THC) causes a negative effect on the brain when it enters the human body, then cannabidiol is not only an antagonist of tetrahydrocannabinol, neutralizing its negative effects in large quantities, but also has therapeutic benefits in the treatment and prevention of many diseases, etc. e. very good for health. Currently, studies of its potential medical applications are expanding and deepening, finding new aspects of beneficial effects.

Cannabidiol-based products are usually created in several stages. First, a sufficient amount of hemp raw material should be grown and harvested. Then cannabidiol oil is produced from the plant mass - the “isolate" in various ways (alcohol, CO2 extraction, etc.). After several stages of purification, this substance can be sold (in countries with a regulatory framework permitting this type of activity) in the form of a concentrate or used for the preparation of various goods (food, cosmetic or pharmacological preparations, dietary supplements , etc.) used wide sections of the population of economically developed countries.

The difference between technical (industrial) hemp and marijuana should be understood. In the first, CBD prevails, and in the second, TNS. According to current US law, the country is allowed to freely grow, process and sell finished products in order to extract cannabidiol obtained from industrial hemp, which contains less than 0.3% tetrahydrocannabinol. The cultivation of hemp plants containing more than 0.3% of this substance is currently illegal at the state (federal) level.

The federal government sees marijuana as a Schedule I drug under the Controlled Substances Act, which makes it illegal for interstate commerce, although dozens of administrative units have legalized cannabis for recreational use of the plant. On the other hand, technical hemp in 2018 was completely excluded from the Law on Controlled Substances, which for the first time since 1937 opened the way for growing and harvesting leaves and inflorescences of malonarcotic hemp on the territory of the most developed country in the world.

Commentary of the Ukrainian Technical Hemp Association

Depending on the extraction methods used, the CBD oil obtained in the initial stages of plant purification may contain dozens of non-narcotic cannabinoids and other compounds, for example, terpenes, which are responsible for creating a profile of taste, aroma and specific effects of hemp. This primary distillation product is called “Full Spectrum CBD.” As the name implies, the CBD isolate is a concentrate that contains only CBD and no other cannabinoids or terpenes. Although the purity of the CBD isolate may seem desirable at first glance, numerous data indicate that “Full Spectrum CBD” has a more pronounced therapeutic effect, due to the synergistic effect on human organ systems, contributes to the complex treatment of a significant number of diseases and the improvement of several physiological parameters . It turns out a certain effect of the ensemble, when several compounds contained in the technical hemp plants of the medical field with powerful therapeutic properties simultaneously have a therapeutic effect, thereby much more effectively affecting the healing process than a single element of the ensemble.
