Australia considers over-the-counter selling of merchandise that includes drug-free cannabinoids

Australian health authorities are considering the possibility of changing the status of certain categories of goods ( food , cosmetics , dietary supplements and feed additives ) containing a trace amount of drug-free cannabinoids, making them available for purchase without a prescription as early as 2020.

Upon a formal request from the Senate Committee, the Department of Health and the Aging of Australia provided information that the Department of Therapeutic Goods is currently conducting a safety audit of the use of small quantities of non-drug cannabinoids, primarily cannabidiol (CBD), which are part of various types of goods .

In particular, the document notes that “Based on the results of the research , a decision will be made that within 2020 a consideration will be initiated on the possibility of using non-drug cannabinoids in small amounts in food , cosmetics , biologically active and feed additives . 

In fact, we can say that Australian health authorities are considering the possibility of changing the status of certain categories of goods ( food , cosmetics , biologically active and feed additives ) containing a trace amount of drug-free cannabinoids, making them available for purchase without a prescription as early as 2020.  According to analysts , such changes will open a huge new sales segment in a country with a thriving gray market for non-drug cannabinoids, which excludes the possibility of legal use of appropriate drugs without a doctor’s prescription.
