In the near future, the industrial hemp market will be “launched” in Moldova
It is necessary to intensify the efforts of relevant government and public organizations, as well as private hemp growers, in order not to miss the emerging potential opportunities for the sale of various types of hemp products (primarily seed material), as well as the knowledge that national specialists can share with hemp growers in Moldova.

Over the past year, the editors of the specialized
electronic publication of national hemp growers have repeatedly drawn attention
to the fact that “ In Moldova they plan to grow industrial hemp from 2024
,” and
also described “ What the implementation of the first project in
Moldova related to hemp construction led to .” Therefore, it is not surprising that
the interview with the relevant minister of the republic, who claims that in
the next few months the market for industrial hemp “will be launched” through
the adoption of relevant regulations could not pass beyond our sight.
Moldova plans to regulate the cultivation, processing, and
sales of final products made from industrial hemp. The draft regulatory act
necessary to “launch” the country’s hemp industry has been prepared by the
Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry. As Minister Vladimir Bolya noted
during the interview , the EU countries allow the cultivation of industrial
crops of industrial hemp, so Moldovan agricultural producers also want to
cultivate the plant, since it is extremely drought-resistant and has high
margins .
The Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry of Moldova
hopes that in the near future Moldovan farmers will be able to grow hemp plants
on an industrial scale. Mr. Bolya claims that this industrial plant is
absolutely socially safe and cannot in any way be associated with controlled
substances, despite the fact that industrial hemp is an agricultural crop with
untapped potential in the republic.
“Industrial hemp is cultivated throughout Europe. This is
the same agricultural plant as wheat, corn or other industrial crops. Textiles
and knitwear are made from fiber, and oil is made from grain. Drug police
officers from EU countries claim that low-narcotic hemp is a technical
agricultural crop, and nothing more! This plant must be treated this way and
definitely not otherwise. In this regard, fears that hemp raw materials can be
used on the “black market” are unnecessary. Industrial hemp is a radically
different plant. By the end of June - beginning of July, we expect that the
decision will be made by the Government,” said Vladimir Bolya on the air of the
“ Cabinetul” program din Umbră ” (“Shadow Cabinet”) on the JurnalTV channel .
To finalize the draft resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Moldova regulating permission for the cultivation and processing of industrial hemp, the experience of Romania will be analyzed.

“There is an Economic Council under the Ministry of
Agriculture, and national farmers have been insisting for a long period of time
on the need to regulate the legality of working with this plant, because
industrial hemp is extremely drought-resistant. Representatives of the Association
of Hemp Producers from Romania have been invited to the next meeting of the
Economic Council to present specific calculations. If the plant is cultivated
for the purpose of obtaining seed material, then to which agricultural
producers are you going to sell them and at what price. What is the average
yield per hectare. What climatic conditions are necessary to work with this
plant, etc. The draft resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers aimed at
regulating the legality of the cultivation and processing of industrial hemp is
currently at the final stage of adoption.”
Commentary from specialists of the
Association “Ukrainian Industrial Hemp”
Unfortunately, the interview with the profile minister of Moldova clearly indicates that the “opening” potential market of the friendly country bordering us is currently out of sight of the Ukrainian cannabis industry. Apparently , in order for European hemp growers (in particular our Romanian colleagues) not to become a dominant factor in the market of a neighboring country, it is necessary to intensify the efforts of specialized government and public organizations, as well as private hemp growers in order not to miss the emerging potential opportunities for the implementation of various type of hemp products (primarily seed material), as well as knowledge that national specialists can share with hemp growers in Moldova . In 2025, local agricultural producers will clearly need Ukrainian seed material, and processors will need well-developed Ukrainian technologies for the production of final products, as well as the use of hemp raw materials.
