The law allowing seriously ill patients to use medical cannabis in Germany, can be adopted in 2016. This was stated by the German government authorized the Drug Policy Mortler Marlene (Marlene Mortler) on Saturday, 23 April, in an interview with Neue Osnabrucker Zeitung, writes DW.

According Mortler, "medical cannabis should be more available to seriously ill patients in the future, which it really helps." The corresponding law "must be adopted by Parliament as early as this year," specified the official responsible for drug policy, representing the conservative party Christian Social Union.

Mortler stressed its commitment to the total prohibition of psychoactive cannabis products of conception (marijuana and hashish), as they may "adversely affect the health of adolescents, in particular, on the development of the brain."

According to the current law on narcotics, cultivation, production, sale, purchase and possession of all parts of the plant cannabis in Germany is prohibited, an exception can be made for the resolution of the Federal Institute for Pharmaceuticals and Medical Products in Bonn (BfArM). Thus, in some cases, patients with serious and chronic diseases, such as multiple sclerosis, get the right to grow cannabis, despite the general ban.
